blog branding daily

“The career coaching lady says I need to work on building a personal brand.”
“She’s right.”
“I know. I’m thinking of livetweeting it.”
“Do yourself a favor and blog it instead.”

And so, here we are. And here I am. I’m 48, I’m currently unemployed, and I’m trying to decide how I sell myself to people who are better at marketing than I am. I decided as long as I’m going about it I’ll keep my flow of content going by talking, among other things, about the process I’m going through as I stand up an actual website (something you would think I’d have done more in the last 10 years, but you’d be wrong) and make it functional and, hopefully attractive to the eye.

If you’re reading this anywhere close to its original date of composition, I trust you will judge me gently. I have been out of the modern web pages loop for around a decade, noodling around in the guts of the servers while an entire generation of web technology came and went. And, oddly enough, the more time I spend with the modern tools the more they feel like old home week. Markdown blog? Feels a heck of a lot like a .plan to me. I miss having a .plan. I plan to keep this up for a little while.

If you stick around you’ll see this site change a lot over the coming weeks. I’ll be pulling in material from other blogs I’ve had over the years (including all of the recipes I’ve put online), adding metadata and tags to posts where needed, etc. I’ll be posting here regularly about both the development of this site and my ongoing job search. I look forward to sharing a lot more over the coming months.
